Houston, TX

The Abilities Expo in Houston is a free expo that helps empower disabled and their families in their daily lives.  This event has hundreds of vendors, artists, and workshops.  Also, they have children events such as face painting and a play area.  Abilities Expo is definitely worth checking out at least once for new gadgets and discovering new products for daily life.

I will do something different than my usual reviews and instead focus on vendors at the expo.

Vendors Worth Checking Out

Toyota Mobility
is first up and this is quite important for those interested in a wheelchair accessible vehicle.  In tandem with BraunAbility, they can design a car that fit your specifications and can add a ramp that is practical for you.  One such vehicle that is wheelchair accessible is the Toyota Sienna, a luxurious minivan.

Also, it is highly recommended to buy from a BraunAbility or Toyota dealer.  These dealers are reputable and all come with a warranty if your vehicle has problems.

SmartDrive is a gadget added to your wheelchair that allows you to go faster and go up hills.  The speed can be adjusted by a watch that can be linked with a smartphone.  This is a nice helper for manual chair users, especially for travel or daily life.  Also, the SmartDrive uses a battery and will need to be charged after 12 miles of use.

Accidentally Accessible is a company that designs adaptive products for home and outdoors.  This is quite a new company and they have great gadgets from motion sensor trash cans to adaptions to make camping more wheelchair accessible.

Motion Composites is a wheelchair company that specializes in lightweight wheelchairs.  Below is the Veloce line that is very lightweight at 11.98 pounds.  This chair is excellent quality and with its weight is an excellent chair for daily life and very portable.

Zappos Adaptive
is part of Zappos, an online clothing store,  that designs clothing that is more accessible.  Some examples of adaptive clothing are slip on pants, removable soles for shoes, and much more.  I have never shopped here but with free shipping and adaptive clothing, this will certainly peak my interest.
