This Houston Heights restaurant serves excellent Southern food with a strong focus on Gulf seafood dishes. One popular item is the enormous fork and knife Sloppy Tides fish sandwich. For those that love to drink they also have a vast list of wines and excellent cocktails to choose from.
My visit came on a Saturday evening with only a few people dining. Being a small restaurant, it was a great time before the dinner rush. For the most part the restaurant is very accessible with a ramp entrance in the front of what was originally a house.
Now with regard to the food, Field & Tides is highly known for New-American dishes that are fairly popular with locals and critics. One such dish I tried was the pimento cheese fritters as an appetizer. This was an excellent choice and very tasty with cheddar fritter stuffed with pimento cheese and complimented with pepper jelly on the side.
With regard to my actual entree, I ended up going with the highly recommended fish sandwich otherwise called “Sloppy Tides”. Like the name says, this sandwich was huge and hard to eat without a fork and knife. The actual fish is cornmeal crusted gulf fish and comes with coleslaw, fried onion, chipotle anchovy sauce, and fries. Despite, the anchovy sauce which I ignored, this was a fantastic fish sandwich that I now consider the best in Houston. Trust me you will be quite full after eating this monster sandwich.
As I said earlier, the accessibility is great for the most part with some minor issues that could be problematic for some people. The biggest issue is there is only one accessible parking spot for the entire restaurant and the bathroom is too small for even manual chairs. If you come at off hours then your restaurant experience should be quite good.
- No steps
- Easy access
- One accessible parking spot in the front
- The bathroom is quite small even for manual chairs
Overall with amazing southern fare foods, Field and Tides even with some minor flaws is an excellent choice for anyone wanting exceptional comfort food as well as a relaxing experience for any occasion.
