Austin is more than just the capital of Texas, it has a unique charm that often parallels Portland.   Also, the University of Texas campus gives a unique feel that most campuses don’t offer. If you in the area it is a beautiful place to walk around and is very accessible.

The restaurants and the music venues are top notched. Do not miss out on BBQ when you visit, particularly Franklin’s BBQ.  Beware the place is very crowded and often has hour long waits on the weekends.  Also, the food trucks are phenomenal and are well worth the hassle. You will find almost every cuisine possible from Mexican to Greek and the quality of these trucks are quite good.

Outside Austin, you should pay a visit to Wimberley, a charming town that is only a short drive from Austin.
