Pulled Pork Sandwich with Fries

Located outside of Fulshear and owned by renowned chef Antonie Dekker.

This Texas-centric restaurant offers phenomenal New-American food with a laid-back attitude. Notable items are bitterballen and pulled pork sandwich. Most importantly, Anthonie’s has remarkable accessibility.

Experience

Came on a Sunday afternoon with the restaurant being more filled than expected. Not much of an issue with the restaurant being fairly large and additional seating outside as well. If it wasn’t too hot, outside seating would be a nice option. Nevertheless, I chose a table inside and in the front. This table, in particular, worked out great and was excellent for most wheelchairs. In addition, the service was fantastic and receives top marks for friendliness.

Food

With regards to the food, the first item I ordered was the Dutch delicacy bitterballen as an appetizer. This isn’t an ordinary item but rather a specialty that pays homage to Dekker’s country of birth. Finding this in the US or Texas is quite difficult. Nevertheless, the bitterballen, a fried pastry stuffed with beef and gravy, was freaking incredible. It had a great deal of flavor to them and were cooked just like they are in Amsterdam.

Afterwards, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, highly recommended by Dekker himself. Since, the restaurant is largely influenced by Texas cuisine, I had a craving for Texas BBQ. My expectations were quite high since I had my fair share of excellent hill country bbq in my lifetime. Consequently, the first bite blew me away and may have been the best pulled pork I have ever tasted. With juicy shredded pork prepared in a slight spicy Texas barbecue sauce this was phenomenal. I will certainly be getting this mouth-watering sandwich again in my future visits.
