If you love Chinese food and want authentic Szechuan Chinese food then Cooking Girl is a place you would love. This form of Chinese is very different from Americanized restaurants such as Panda Express. They do have familiar items like orange chicken and kung pao chicken if you’re not too adventurous. However, some of their unique items like the spicy chicken cube and hot diving fish are excellent but extremely spicy. Also, they have very adventurous items such as soft bacon, pork belly, and ox tail soup, yes this really does have ox tail.
During my visit, I started with the garlic-flavoured cucumber as an appetizer. This is very delicious and includes cucumbers that are prepared with garlic and pepper paired with a mildly spiced ginger sauce. Definitely, a can’t miss item.
For my entree, I ordered the stir fried spicy chicken cube that was quite mild compared to other dishes, such as the extremely spicy pepper twins chicken. Included in this very tasty dish is chicken thighs that are stir-fried and seasoned with pepper and paired with actual peppercorns and jasmine chunks. Personally, this is Cooking Girl’s best dish with a small kick with regard to spice, but well worth the cost.
The accessibility of the actual restaurant is remarkably good and the tables aren’t spaced too closely together, so space should not be a problem for most chair users. Unfortunately, the bathrooms are too small to be considered accessible for most people.
Overall, Cooking Girl is Houston’s best Chinese restaurant and is very accessible. The food is to die for and is certainly not a place to pass up if you’re a lover of Chinese food.
