Izakaya Ten is Sugar Land’s first Japanese pub. The emphasis is on delicious small plates, appetizers, and excellent cocktails. Also, come during happy hour for excellent discounts on popular items.

Experience

My visit came on a not so busy Sunday afternoon. I was able to pick my table in the back of the restaurant, which is somewhat small. Luckily, the table was able to accommodate my wheelchair. Unfortunately, during peak hours the restaurant may be problematic for most wheelchairs. The restaurant only has a few tables that can accommodate wheelchairs. Reservations are highly recommended for evenings.

For the food, I started with a few different small plates and sushi rolls for a small party. I also ordered the steak teriyaki for my entree. It was pretty good though a little different from the classic chicken teriyaki. The meat is more like hanger steak. Has some fat but not too much fortunately. Though still worth ordering if you are into beef.

Nevertheless, the rock n roll sushi roll and tater tots were the most delicious. The roll has tempura fried shrimp with a nice spicy mayo sauce to complement it. A superb item and one of my favorites here.

Despite not being very Japanese, the tater tots were fantastic with the katsu sauce and Japanese mayo on top. This is the item I order every time.

Accessibility

The overall accessibility in general is fairly adequate, though experience may vary during peak dining hours.

  • Accessible parking near entrance
  • Step-free paths available
  • Easy access to and from restaurant
  • Accessible paths inside restaurant
  • For some wheelchairs the door threshold needs maneuvering
  • Restaurant has a few tables that can accommodate a wheelchair
  • Small restaurant but not overly small
  • Standard bathrooms
  • Menu available online
  • Waiter service

Verdict

Izakaya Ten offering delicious small plates and everyday happy hour specials without breaking the bank is a nice touch for a Japanese restaurant. The food and the atmosphere is on par with any fine Japanese restaurant and is a great addition to Sugar Land’s dining scene.
