Fall has finally come to Houston, which means more enjoyable weather in the coming months. Why not use the fall months to take advantage and take part in outdoor activities.  These activities can all be fairly accessible and fun for all ages.

1. Texas Renaissance Festival

If you ever wanted a festival focused on Renaissance era or fantasy then this will be up your alley.  This festival starts on the last weekend in September to the weekend after Thanksgiving.  Throughout the duration, there are different themes each weekend.  Don’t forget to experience many of their many shows and their medieval like shops.  Most importantly, the festival is accessible and has paved paths and permanent bathrooms.  Also, dressing up is highly encouraged and of course enjoy yourself.

2. Try Local Festivals

October is an excellent time to attend one of Houston’s finest festivals.  These festivals can vary from food to arts and craft events.  Why not try one or two of Houston’s top-rated and wheelchair accessible festivals.

Bayou City Art Festival

This huge art festival in downtown Houston is scheduled for October 13-14.  You can find art from artists around the US and the world.  They also have entertainment and interesting food trucks that are worth trying.  Lastly, the festival is located on a closed-off street and everything is easy to maneuver around.

Original Greek Festival

Located at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedra, 3511 Yoakum Boulevard Houston, Texas 77006.

 

This festival in its 52nd year is focused on celebrating Greek culture from food to music, and much more.  In fact, the event is located on the grounds of the Greek Orthodox Church and starts October 4-7.  If you love Greek food then this you will certainly enjoy this event.

3. Houston Zoo

The zoo is perfect in the fall months with cooler temperatures and fewer crowds.  With better weather, you can enjoy more than during the hot summer months.  There are no major changes with regard to animal exhibits, fortunately.  Also, they have fall events worth checking out with different themes including Halloween.

4. Galveston

Why not try a visit to Galveston with fewer crowds and more enjoyable weather to stroll around Downtown Galveston.  With nice restaurants, shopping, and museums, you can have a nice day outing. Also, you can visit Moody Gardens and see amazing aquatic life and even penguins.  No matter your fancy, there is plenty of stuff to satisfy everyone.

 

5. Brazos Bend State Park

If you ever wished to see alligators up close this is your place.  This park is fairly accessible with accessible paths and an accessible boardwalk with great views of birds and alligators.  Also, the George Ranch Observatory is located in the park.  This observatory allows public or private viewings of the stars on Saturday nights.  With cooler temperatures, the park is an excellent place to have your next picnic at.
