Rumi’s Kitchen, a Persian restaurant from Atlanta Georgia, recently opened a location in Post Oak. Considered by many critics to be one of America’s finest Persian restaurants with its unique upscale aesthetics and Americana influences.

Experience

My visit came on a Sunday afternoon, was fairly crowded despite being post brunch. I did have a reservation luckily. The restaurant seated me in the middle of the dining area where tables can accommodate my chair. Though be aware of high tops and request regular tables beforehand.

The restaurant when busy can be fairly loud and can be sometimes unorganized on the weekends. Highly recommended visiting on off hours for a better experience.

Service was excellent and very informative for Persian cuisine beginners.

Food

I ordered the Persian Tea before starting the meal off. The Persian tea was prepared with my server pouring two kettles (one tea and one pure water) into my cup. The goal is to make the tea more flavorful and less strong. Though this process does cool off fairly well. In any case, there is no charge for refilling the kettle with hot water or reheated tea.

Started off with the short smoked salmon hummus as a starter. The smoked salmon is mixed in with pine nuts and a spicy pepper sauce. Was very good, though not my favorite with regards to hummus. Does come with complimentary sliced pita bread or Persian bread. Was disappointed the bread did not come out hot. Though, it was still fairly good.

Next, I ordered the corn ribs for the table as a shareable side. This was a unique twist on the Americana staple corn on the cob. The corn was cooked in delicious jalapeño butter and sprinkled with Persian black pepper. These were downright incredible and a must have as an appetizer or a side. I would order these again.

For my entree, I went with the beef koobideth kabob. It was quite tasty and flavorful. The meat is very tender with high quality ground chuck beef. Also, comes with onions, tomatoes, and flavorful saffron basmati rice. A great choice with regards to entrees and a safe bet for new timers.

For the closing act, I ordered the white chocolate cardamom cake for dessert. This is basically a cardamom infused butter cake mixed in with terragon strawberry sauce and vanilla ice cream. Unfortunately, the cake only has a weak hint of white chocolate and seemed a little too dry for my tastes. I did enjoy the generous handfuls of strawberries. This wasn’t terrible, but not something I would order again.
