This Californian export has opened a few locations in the Houston area and Sugar Land is among the newest openings. As the name states, the restaurant is a family-friendly diner with black bear theme memorabilia. Also, Black Bear Diner serves breakfast all day.
Experience
Black Bear Diner has been opened since late November and my visit wasn’t very crowded on a Sunday afternoon. It’s hard to find in the newest area on University Boulevard. Nevertheless, the restaurant is fairly big and had quite a few staffers working. The staff was very friendly when I walked in.
As mentioned earlier it was fairly empty. Luckily for me, I had a great choice of easy access tables to choose from. And the restaurant has a great deal of space between tables too. It was much more spacious than other breakfast places in the area.
Before I mention what I order, I will tell you the concept of this diner. They offer all-day breakfast, lunch, and dinner like IHOP and Cracker Barrel. Also, Black Bear Diner offers a Breakfast for Dinner options including Chicken and Waffles and Smoked Beef Brisket both with eggs. And if that isn’t impressive they offer amazing desserts like blackberry cobbler and bear claws.
Now to my actual entree, the excellent cinnamon roll French toast. This type of French toast is quite filling with three big cinnamon rolls cooked into a French toast concoction. Then topped with powdered sugar and icing. This was superb and was incredibly yummy. Certainly an item worth getting next time. Also, I ordered red potatoes as an optional side. They were fairly good and weren’t too greasy. Not their best side, but definitely a good option if you like breakfast potatoes.
Accessibility
Black Bear Diner has exceptional accessibility that provides a nice experience for people with disabilities. The restaurant is fairly spacious with tables not too bunched together and provides easy access throughout. In addition, the restaurant provides accessible bathrooms and accessible parking that is close to the entrance.

Black Bear Diner provides excellent comfort food and superb accessibility that provides a nice alternative to national chains that can lack friendly charm. This is certainly a nice addition to the Sugar Land restaurant scene.
